Having no internet connection after virus removal is not a good thing!
Unfortunately, losing your internet connection is very likely after virus removal, since many types of malware target various parts of the Windows operating system, that are responsible for you connecting to the internet successfully, among other factors.
The settings affected by virus removal include:
- TCP/IP settings
- Windows Host File
- Proxy Server Settings
- Router Settings via remote access
I will go more into detail regarding these settings, and how they impact the ability to connect to the internet on a Windows computer, in a future article on this page.
For now, let’s take a look at a utility that will fix the “no internet after virus removal problem”, in many of the instances where you can’t connect. Keep in mind, that if your internet connection is lost due to reasons such as:
- Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has “shut-off” your internet
- You have a router with improper settings, is failing, or not connected properly
- Your hardware needs replacing (ethernet cable, network card etc)
- You have driver problems or software conflicts disabling your connection
…the fix that we are going to show you will NOT work to restore your internet connection after removing malware on a computer. You will need to address these issues first, and then use this tool. Keep in mind that if the steps below don’t work, there are more commands that can help to restore your internet connection. Feel free to email me if needed.
In Vista and Windows 7:
- Click on the Start menu icon
- Type cmd in the Search box
- Right click on cmd.exe
- Click Run as administrator
- At the C: command prompt, type: netsh winsock reset
- Press Enter
- Restart the computer and that SHOULD fix it
——————-
In Windows XP
- Download Winsock Fix by clicking here
- Install Winsock Fix
- Run the program and restart your computer after it runs.
- That SHOULD do it!
Now your internet connection should work fine, unless there are other problems going on with your computer and/or hardware as described above. If you haven’t yet experienced having no internet after virus removal, keep this guide handy in case you need it in the future!
Happy Computing!

How can i download winsock fix without internet connection? (Right now i am using a laptop which has connection, but on my computer, it doesn’t have connection). I need help ASAP please
.
The first thing you can do, is make sure to renew/release the IP address.
Start by going to the command prompt:
1. At the C: prompt, type ipconfig/release
2. Next, hit Enter. Afterwards, type ipconfig/renew at the next prompt
3.) Press Enter. After that, close out of the command prompt and wait a few seconds. Then see if you can connect.
If that doesn’t work, you can restore Winsock manually. Follow these tips on Microsoft’s site:
