Since you mentioned a clock, chances are your CMOS battery could be very low. CMOS batteries hold the ROM’s info, thus allowing your computer to bootup and “remember” it’s settings, which include the time and date. If you can open up your laptop by removing several screws, you could replace/check the battery yourself.

You could also take it to a tech or a shop and have them replace the battery for you. That’s if a battery is your problem.

There could be numerous problems making your laptop behave that way. Have you power adapter and your battery checked at a shop if you can,
as they usually do it for free. Either your laptop battery isn’t getting a full charge, or your adapter is not working to charge it up correctly.

Sounds like you are having problems with overheating, since you hear noise. Is the noise loud..like a fan whirring? Or do you hear some
kind of scraping sound? Sorry for the delay in getting to your comment but there are many, many comments to go through and provide help to.

Have your computer physically checked for overheating. Sounds like that could be the problem.

Have you tried removing your battery and then plugging your adapter into the computer…then powering it on?
If that doesn’t help, make sure your battery is fully charged; it could be going bad. Take it to a shop or Best Buy near
you if you can, and have them test out your battery and your adapter to make sure both work.

That could be causing your problem. If not, you have some kind of hardware problem that will need repair. Good luck!

1.) Problem with Windows. To verify this, press F8 many, many times after starting your PC. Are you taken to the “Safe Mode..” menu after
doing that? Or are you still getting the blank screen and cursor? If so, move on to #2…

2.) Beep codes. Do you hear any beeping at all when you get the screen? If Windows isn’t loading at all, chances are it could be corrupt or
something could be wrong with your hard drive. Can you go into your “BIOS Setup Menu” and check to see if your hard drive is being detected?
IF not, that could be the problem. You can refer to your user manual or the Internet for info on checking that.

3.) Hardware problem. If your drives are being detected, but you still have the same issue, chances are you have to “Update your BIOS.” You can
refer to Acer’s website on how to do this. Their Support/Downloads section usually has info to assist you.

Last but not least, if none of that helps, you could have hardware damage, such as the motherboard. But troubleshoot these tips first and let us

This was something I hadn’t known could work. Thanks! I’ll have to keep it in mind for future computers Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked for me THIS time. When I try to turn my acer on I either get a black screen (though it sounds like the computer is working), or I make it past the acer start up screen and end on a black screen with a white “-” in the top left corner. Any ideas? Oh! And I also can’t hold the power button to turn it off. I need to actually take the charger and batter out.
