Acer Laptop Wont Turn On? Here’s What To Do To Fix It!

Countless people complain about Acer laptops that won’t turn on!

Do you have an Acer laptop that won’t turn on at all, or at least from time to time?
No matter how many times you push the power button, the laptop does not power up…

You can leave the computer and come back to it hours later, only to find that it still won’t start up. Perhaps you notice a blinking, amber-colored light every time you press that infuriating power button. Have no fear, the answer (hopefully) to your long-awaited solution is here…

1.) Make sure your battery isn’t completely dead. As in–all the way dead, to where it can never charge again. Assuming your battery still works, continue on…

2.) Remove your battery from your Acer laptop. Yes, I know I just told you to make sure the battery works in number 1 but there is a reason for this.Β  I promise!

3.) Next, unplug the power adapter from the wall AND from the computer .When your Acer laptop doesn’t power up the problem could be worsened by leaving it plugged in.

4.) Now that the battery and adapter have been disconnected from the computer, you can move onto the solution. Hold down the power button for 45 seconds. Next, Press the power button numerous times for at least 45 more seconds (keep pressing the button during the entire time period).

5.) Allow the laptop to sit for 20 minutes at least (sometimes it will power on immediately after performing #4, but in worse cases this is encouraged)

6.) After the “waiting” period has ended, connect the battery and adapter to the computer. Turn it on and all should be good.

Your Acer laptop should now turn on!Β  Static buildup is a big problem in various Acer computers, which causes the computers to not turn on. The process highlighted above helps to discharge static electricity by eliminating the remaining amount of electricity stored in the laptop (capacitors).

    • Hi there. Is your laptop an Acer?

Did you try the steps mentioned here? In rare cases, you have to leave the battery out for a long time (an hour or so).
While the battery is out the power cord shouldn’t be plugged into the computer, or this may not work. If these tips don’t
solve your problem after many tries, the problem could be your motherboard.

What’s your computer make and model?

Hello um I have a Acer Aspire One D255E
It just stopped turning on and charging
The last time I got to use it was last month

It (which was all the time.) so I bought
An charger and I thought it would fix the
Problem but it doesn’t charge at all. I don’t
See any problems with the charging hole area i don’t know what to call it (a jack?) whatever I NEED MY COMPUTER WORKING!! Please help me..

    • Chairity says:

I have the same issue with my Acer Aspire 5517 the charge light does not come on when I plug it in and it turns on but then shuts off or at times it just does not turn on at all. Since this has taken place I have just been storing it until I can afford to fix it. Nothing broken, never dropped. Not sure what to do …please give some detailed info…:)

      • Hi Chairity,

Here are some of the likeliest possibilities:

*Do you hear any beeping sounds by the way, or is anything showing on the screen when it shuts off? *

1.) Overheating–when you turn it on do you hear a fan spinning loudly, or not at all? If there is no fan spinning,
chances are something (usually the CPU) is overheating and it won’t allow powering up. It also could be overheating if
the fans work properly, but the “thermal paste” on the CPU is old, cracked, dissipating, etc.

You can generally feel the bottom of the laptop before it shuts off to get an idea of how hot it is. You can also get a laptop cooling pad for your lap to sit under it, but that’s IF there are actual heat issues.

2.) Bad charging port–If the charger port is bad, it will shut off once the charge is interrupted, after the battery has
already died. Can you fully charge the battery? If so, does it still shut off when the battery is connected but not the
        power cord?

3.) Bad motherboard–The motherboard is usually to blame when overheating, charger port, bad battery and other hardware
issues aren’t at fault. This should be considered only after ruling out everything else as culprits.

4.) Other hardware–such as the CPU, video card, etc could be bad. But not usually before the motherboard or other components fail.

Keep me posted on what happens!

Is this a symptom of a bad battery or is it shorting somewhere do you think.

  29. ross says:

hey my laptop is an aspire 4810T, I tried this but had no success! it turns on and I can press F2 to enter setup but nothing else. is there anythin I can do to fix it? cheers

    • Hi Ross,

It’s possible that you could have hardware problems, or it could be as simple as a corrupt BIOS.
When you enter setup after pressing F2, are you able to get into the BIOS setup menu with no issues? If so, try choosing “Reset to defaults”
or similar wording, to reset your BIOS to see if that helps. Sorry, I don’t have your computer in front of me so I can’t see exactly what your
BIOS reads. Feel free to post back for more assistance!

I have an Acer Aspire 5750 that I got almost a month ago. It was working fine last night and I left the charger connected all night because it was almost out of batteries. When I tried turning it on this morning, the light on the power button would come on, but the screen would remain black. I did all that you said to, but it still isn’t turning on. Any ideas?

    • Hi Krista,

Do you notice any activity at all when you power up the computer? Such as:

      1.) Lights coming on
      2.) Hard drives spinning (sound)
3.) CD/DVD drive spinning (sound and lighting up)
      4.) Any beep codes

If you provide more info we can assist you in narrowing down the culprit. πŸ™‚

Hi I have a similar problem to this. The power light will come on and I can hear the harddrive spinning but the screen stays black. I have tied just using the ac and just using the battery. • Jillian Lang says:

Hi! My Acer Aspire 5517 is doing the same thing, three times now. First two times this happened it stayed “dead” for a week, and then this time it has not been booting up for a week and a half. Just tried everything you said to do, and it’s still not booting up. I hear noises coming from the computer for a second and then it dies. This one is three years old but it started happening at less than two years old. Help!

      • Hi Jillian,

Sounds like you are having problems with overheating, since you hear noise. Is the noise a fan whirring? Or do you hear some
kind of scraping sound? Sorry for the delay in getting to your comment but there are many, many comments to go through and provide help to. πŸ™‚

It would stay on from seconds to minutes and then would turn off again.. One time it turned on and a start up screen came up saying that their may be a software or harware problem and it gave me the option to restore..i went through with the restore and the laptop appeared to be fine except the fact that it wouldnt charge…since it wouldnt charge the laptop dies and since then it has not turned on again…Can someone help me? What’s the problem?!

  34. Misylla says:

I have an Acer Aspire and having trouble powering up. When my power supply cord stopped working on my (which still works fine powering up the other two laptops in my home) I tried the power supply cord for my husband’s computer and it worked for about two weeks. Then once again I my computer would no longer power up. On the reconmendation of Greek Squard my husband purchased a new power supply code and won’t you know it, that one only worked for a week in a half. Keep in mind that means I’ve now tried three different cords, all of which still work fine on other computers. Also neither of the three cords work at all on my computer; I’ve attempted each of them several times. Please help!!!!

    • Hi Misylla,

Did you have Geek Squad check your DC jack in your computer? It could be possible that the jack itself is faulty or loose.

      • Misylla says:

I didn’t get anywhere with them. The individual I spoke with informed me that he had never “heard of this problem before; that he believed me but what I was saying didn’t add-up. Also that no one else where would know more than he did. That I should just replace the mother broad.” They didn’t check anything, he said jack didn’t appear to be damaged.

When I was on my acer laptop it turned off unexpectedly and I tried to turn it back on but the screen light up black with like a small white line blinking in the top left corner but it will kinda just freeze and I don’t know what 2 do! 😦

  40. Damien says:

HI, I have a problrm with my Acer Aspire, it only work on battery. When I plug in the power for a certain of time, the power button will blink red and discharge the battery until 0%. When the power button starts to blink, i have to unplug and plug the power cord but it only last for awhile. The funny thing is when the laptop is on off mode and only power cord input without battery, it still blinks red after a cetain period of time. i bought another power supply with same voltage higher amp also it is not helping. What cause the blink and how could i stop it?

  41. Bryan says:

AC and no battery my Acer Aspire 4720z boots fine but when I put the battery in it dies after three seconds and the screen flashes bright to dim a couple times before it shuts off. Got new battery and does the same thing. Replaced the power board and does the same thing. Try to turn it on with battery in and the amber light blinks 8 times.

  42. Annette Pacey says:

    Hi Jarvis,
I have a similar problem to those above. My Acer Aspire 5750 (about 3 months old) was working perfectly until this morning. I pressed the button to turn it on and there was a very brief booting-up sound, then nothing – screen stayed black. When I waited I could here the sound of the fan periodically, just for a few seconds, but there was no boot up (or further boot up sound, nor beeps). I tried turning it off and on a few times manually (just pressing and holding the main on/off button) and it was the same thing.
A while later my husband tried to turn it on and it started first time (with the windows option of starting normally or safe mode). I started it normally and thought it was just a blip. I shut it down properly and the next time it started up fine, as normal. Thought that was the end of the problem but tonight the same thing has happened. We have done the step of taking out the battery and following the instructions above but unfortunately it hasnΒ΄t helped.
We are going to leave the battery out over night just to be sure but from what you have said above it sounds as if it is the motherboard. Is that very bad news? Am I going to loose all my data? Is there anything else I can try before following up the warranty? I do normally leave it plugged in and charging most of the time, has that caused the problem?
ItΒ΄s a bit shocking that so many people are having the same problem with this computer, I thought when I bought it that it was a bit too cheap to be true! Hope you can help. Excellent blog by the way.
    Thanks, Annette

    • Hi Annette,

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been on a bit of a hiaus. It sounds like your problem is
hardware related, but it might not be the motherboard.

Is your PC still under warranty? If so, you can send it to be fixed and you wont have to
lose any data at all. You could backup your data by “cloning” it, if you have an external
USB drive that can hold the data. Then, if your drive is wiped out during repair you can
easily restore your data to 100%.

Let us know if you need further assistance or if you want that link.

      Thank you! πŸ™‚

Having slightly different problem. Acer Aspire 5520-5912. worked fine until this morning. Screen went white with slanting lines. Powered it off, but when i powered it back on it would not come in. I hear the whirring noise of something turning, then it stops, and after a few seconds repeats exaclty the same. Removed battery, followed your suggestion to play with power button & wait but still doing same thing. Seems it still recognizes the speakers because i hear the noises through the speakers.

        What do you suggest?

  43. Bryce says:

I have Acer extensa 4420, it was working perfect then one day I turn it on and the screen is very, very dim. I thought it wouldn’t turn on but then while hitting some buttons it gave me a quick flash. I did manage to get it in the right angle so I could go in and adjust settings to make sure are bright as possible and all are turn all the way to highest brightness. I let it set for about a week and then found this site and try it again… Same thing. Still able to get bright flash so I know the lights are there and working. Have you ever heard of this before or any ideas on how to get back to normal?

Your reply is greatly appreciated.

I have an acer laptop (about 2 years old). I was using it last night without any problems. This morning when I tried to turn it on, it would not. I tried taking out the battery and keeping the adapter plugged, I tried to take both out and let it sit, I tried the static this you said, but nothing works. The laptop is non-responsive. No lights, noises, or fans turn on. Can you suggest something else before I have spend a ridiculous amount of money.

  46. Miroslav says:

Hi, I have aspire 5755g that wont start up. When it is on charger and I hit power button a cooler spins four times (each spining lasts about a sec, with a sec of silence between spins). The last fourth spining is a bit shorter. All lights are good (power, battery and hard disk), I can hear hard drive spining too during that time but THE SCREEN ISN’T showing anything. Than my laptop just shuts down.
When I unplug the charger and try to start it with battery only it goes just one spining of cooler and it shuts down.
Now it might be static electricity damaged because I use it on my bed and my wool blanket is always under laptop.

  47. Scott says:

I am having the same problem as other folks here. When I power up my laptop it only says press F2 for setup and then turns off. It cycles on and off until I remove the battery. There is a slight buzz followed by a small beep. I does this five times, turns off and repeats.

I got a problem with my Acer Ethos 8951G series.
I noticed that after I turned it off today the fan was still working. I tried to power it on, but I got the power led on, i can hear the fan, but the HDD light beeps as if the hdd has trouble turning on and there is a soft click every second. Also, the screen never powers on ( tried to plug an external monitor and it has no signal).
The only thing I can think of is, before shutting it down, the Aces untility ran some updates, and I think I got a failed message on the BIOS update.

Could by any chance get some tips?

Hi, I hope you can help me!
I turn on my acer laptop all the power lights are on like normal but the screen is like black with faint lines that keep moving but it’s barely visible. And a couple of times it has beeped when I have turned it on, almost like an alarm noise. I have tried taking the power cord and battery out holding the power button for 45 seconds and pressing the power button over and over again for a further 45 seconds then waiting 20 mins and putting the battery and power cord back in, turned it on and still stays the same… What should I do! I don’t want to lose any of the music or photos I have on my laptop.

Hello I am having similar problems as some of the other people who have commented but they never really got specific. I have an Acer Aspire 5750 series model number: P5WE0 (that’s a zero at the end). I have only had this laptop for about 6-7 months. Last night when I went to turn on my laptop the power button turned on and so did the light bulb light. The third light from the left, which looks as of it has a set of stacked CDs above it, flashed for less than a second then turned off. Normally I just use the ac adapter so I put my battery in and still no dice. Then I tried both the plug and battery and still got nothing. After playing with it for a bit I got it to work but I can’t remember the sequence I did. Then I shut it down normally. Now today I went to turn it on and the same thing happened. The screen was completely black. There was no power in it at all. The power button lit up. The light bulb light lit

Since yesterday I have more or less the same issue as everybody else.
When I press the power button of my Acer Aspire 4535 the power light turns on and I hear the drivers (but just for a ltitle while). the screen stays completely black (as when it is turned off).
a friend of mine recommanded me to take our the battery and try again, but it didnt change a thing when turning on. Instead of forcing the laptop to turn off I left it on and suddenly (after about 1 hour) my screen turned on! And I was able to work my laptop normally.
Than yesterday I turned off my computer normally (still no battery in it) and this morning the exact same thing happaned. Turned it on, no screen activity, but after about one hour it turned on.
Any idea what this might be??
PS. Working without the cable has never been an option, always had problems with the battery. Not sure if this is causing the new problem

  104. Dan says:

Thanks! I tried the other 10 or so variations of this floating around the web to no avail and yours finally worked!

It was either pressing the power button multiple times after holding that did the trick or because the other times I only unplugged the charger from the laptop but not the wall. Also, in my previous attempts I didn’t wait very long before trying to start the computer again.

I should also note that the previous tries I was doing it with the laptop sitting on the carpet and since this seems to be a static problem, it may have helped that I moved it onto a wood table.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire laptop that appears to be completely dead. I have tried the steps above but still nothing. With either the battery or AC adaptor connected, both or just either one, there are no lights comming on, no sounds at all. Would you have any idea what could be wrong with it? It was only purchased 8 months ago so is still under warranty but would rather not send it away as my daughter needs it for school. Thanks for any help.

    • Hi Lisa,

Do you know if the computer was dropped; left exposed to heat for a long period of time, or if liquids were spilled on it (or exposed to moisture)?

If none of the above, you may want to take it to a local shop (or a Best Buy if in your area). They will need to test your power supply and battery
to ensure they are operating correctly. That is usually always FREE. πŸ™‚

That would probably be the best bet because of the inactivity (no lights, fans, sounds etc). If they find the problem isn’t either of those, you can
send the laptop in for the warranty repair. I know, it’s very inconvenient but with sometimes surprisingly quick turnaround.

      I hope that helps!!

      • Lisa says:

Thanks for your reply. I kept searching after I posted this message and came across this I followed the instructions, dowloading the correct BIOS update for our model and it worked! As it says in the instructions, it didn’t work the first time, but for whatever reason, the second time I did it, it just magically switched back on. I don’t know how it works with the battery out and the adaptor not plugged in, but it did. This was last night and the laptop turned on as normal this morning, so far it looks like it has (for now) fixed the problem. Just thought you might like this follow up as my searching online has shown me that many people seem to have this problem with their Acer laptops.

  121. I turn on my acer laptop and the power and everything is ok but for sum reason the screen is blank. Anyone help me

    • Hi there Final Fantasy God..

Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor using a VGA cable. It will plug into the blue port on the side or back of your laptop.

If the external monitor works properly, you either need to have your computer screen replaced or your inverter. The inverter is often the issue and you can narrow it down quite easily:

*When you turn on your computer, shine a flashlight onto the screen.
Do you notice a very faint image or text? If so, the problem is usually the backlight inside of the screen, the lights up the screen so you can see it. If you see nothing at all when doing this, the screen is bad, or the inverter could be bad.

Try to narrow down the video card having an issue by hooking up the laptop to an external monitor, and posting your results.

  122. Suzanne says:

Really hoping you can help me. I have an Acer Aspire 9301AWSMi which was fine one night, got shut down properly and when I turned it on the next day it wouldnt even boot up. The power light comes on and the light for the battery & the AC adaptor. Ive opened the laptop up & the fan will spin for all of a few seconds and then stop. All the lights stay on so that doesnt change but nothing happens, nothing on the screen, zilch. Ive tried what you first suggested but it didnt work.

Can you suggest anything else? Would really appreciate any help πŸ™‚

    • Hi Kates!

Sounds like there is some kind of hardware fault more than a static buildup.
It could be possible that your fan is dead and it needs to be replaced. If it doesn’t work properly, the CPU (processor)
will overheat within a matter of seconds, so it would shut down immediately to prevent the chance of overheating.

It’s kind of hard to troubleshoot your particular problem, but you may first want to eliminate the possibility of
the problem being caused by something “simple.” If you are comfortable opening the laptop, do that and remove the small,
round battery for about 30 minutes. This is the “CMOS battery.”

You could also go into BIOS setup after boot-up and
find the setting to “Reset to default,” “BIOS defaults” or similar wording. That may work but I find pulling the battery
      to be more effective.

Hopefully that works but there’s a chance that it won’t. If not, feel free to post back for more help! πŸ™‚

i have a acer timeline 4810t that suddenly decided to one day don’t power up.
sometimes if i remove battery and power supply, maybe without battery and just
the adapter the battery led lights for a few seconds or just blink also for a few seconds..

it has a few moments with like 2-3 seconds of life signs, the fan and harddrive is spinning led panel with wifi etc. also lights up and responds, up but then goes dead again..

any idea.? the last time it was in use it was no internal drive connected but a disk connected
with usb and although the battery was almost empty it stayed on for very long time with 1-2 % battery left.. dont know of this is of importance but just tought i mention it..

i feel maybe it has done its job and can be given up soon, but it is that last bit of hope
that makes me sit down and leave a reply here πŸ˜‰

thanx if you have time to reply,

    • Hi Andy,

      Thanks for your comment.
It sounds as if you have some deeper underlying hardware problems. At first thought I would assume it’s the motherboard.
Do you have a local repair shop such as a Best Buy-Geek Squad nearby? I’m asking because they test power supplies and
batteries for free, and they can also give you a quick assessment on what the problem could be (after testing).

      One possibility is there could be some kind of power shorting or grounding issue causing it to turn on and then off again;
this type of problem can be fixed but it is usually hard to pinpoint, thus repair. So the motherboard oftentimes need
      replacing in those cases.

Once you rule out any bigger hardware issues, troubleshooting the power components is much easier and stress free. πŸ™‚

      Best of luck!

    • Hi Anna,

I can understand your frustration! When it began to load, did it show the black screen/cursor BEFORE the Windows logo? As in–as SOON as you turned it on?
If so, there is some kind of motherboard issue going on, such as a CMOS that needs resetting, or even bad memory…a few other problems. Do you hear any
      beeps at all?

Also, do you recall the last thing you did on the computer before this started happening? Was it dropped, shutdown without closing down in Windows properly,
      virus infection, etc?

Looking for helpful information about what I might be able to to do for my Acer Aspire 7736Z-4088 laptop. I just started having this problem today. I was on the computer and it for no reason just completely shut off. I restarted the computer and about 10 minutes later it completely shut off again. Only now it will not turn back on. I have tried the suggestions on some other sites. I bought a new power cord thinking that may be the issue…but it doesnt seem to be. I have tried to “remove the static” as has been suggested: by taking the battery out and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button down for 60 seconds, then trying to turn it on again…….and still nothing. I dont know what else to try…..any suggestions would be appreciated.

  147. Jaya says:

When i press the on button, absolutely nothing happens, no lights turn on, and the fan doesn’t turn on or anything. But the light on the charger is on, so it must be something with the computer itself.

    • Hi Jaya, the problem just might be the power button itself. In most cases the button isn’t the problem, but it’s best to rule it out first.
If you continue to press the power button many, many times, does it EVER turn on at all? If not…yes, you might have a problem with the computer
itself. One thing I would assume off-the-top is your DC jack needs replacing. Have it checked out to make sure you are getting power to your PC.

You could borrow an AC adapter that you know works properly, and see if you get power. If not, it’s either your jack or other hardware.

  148. Brian says:

I am having the same problem. The LCD was blinking so i removed the case off the laptop to fix it. It started working so i powered the laptop back down and but the case back on. After i got the case back on i went to power up the computer again and now it will not start. When i plug the Power cable in it shows the battery charge light, but nothing else. I’ve pressed the power button numerous times and still no luck.

    • Hi Brian,

When you say you “removed the case,” what exactly do you mean by the case?

Usually when you have a charge light but no power-up/booting, there’s some hardware issues going on. Take your battery out and try to see if it powers up
when connected only to the adapter. Then, if no luck, put the battery back in and power up with-OUT the power adapter. If no luck, try the steps outlined
in the post you read, but wait at least an hour after removing the battery/unplugging power, to reconnect everything and start it back up.

      Hope that helps!

Excellent one.i had the same problem with my lappy,i followed all the steps hoping that it will be solved without taking it back to service centre but no luck .can u help in identifying the problem,i giving the details below. -acer aspire 5750 -wen I start it will blink for 2-3 seconds after that it goes off,no fan sound,no beep sound, nothing on screen. Plz give reply asap, accordingly I can
    proceed further.

    • Hi Naga,

Sounds like your computer isn’t getting any power–either into it from the power supply, or no power coming from the battery–or both.
Have you tried to check and see if adapter has gone bad? You can take your computer to a shop and they will test it for FREE (or they should,
at least…if not go somewhere else!)

Check your hardware in this order:

1.) Your adapter (by taking it to a shop, or plugging a known GOOD adapter in to test). If it is good, move to #2…
2.) Your jack – if the adapter is good, pull your battery and plug in your laptop without it. If it doesn’t power up, it’s your DC jack. It
may need replacing. If your PC does power up…check your battery…
3.) Your battery – if the adapter is good, and the jack is good too, add your battery back and plug it in. If it doesn’t power up. It’s your

      Hope that helps! πŸ™‚
      your battery.
3.) Your jack – if the adapter is good

Having the same problem here, my daughters laptop was working fine one minute and then just switched off. Now I cant get it to power up with or without the adaptor. There are no lights on and no response when I press the power button. Even when I plug the adaptor in I get no charging light. Its an Acer Aspire 5750. Have tried the above and it didn’t work for me. Not very good for an 18 month old laptop which is unfortunately 6 months out of warranty !!

    • Hi Anthony,

If you are still having this problem, try taking the computer to a shop or store to have them connect a “known working” power adapter to it.
If it powers up, replace your adapter. If not, chances are the DC jack is bad and needs to be replaced, or the motherboard is bad.

I would assume it’s the DC jack IF it doesn’t power up with a good adapter, before I would assume it’s the motherboard.

      • Anthony says:

        Many Thanks for your reply,

Unfortunately I think it is the motherboard as I have tried a functioning power supply and a fully charged battery but to no avail. It still won’t power up. I have spoken to Acer as the laptop is barely 18 months old, must say that even though it is out of warranty I thought they might ‘assist’ with the cost of the repairs but, no joy. I doubt I will ever buy an Acer product again if this is the longevity I can expect from their products.

Someone gave laptop acer aspire 5570z and at that day i tried to start it up but nothing was happen i try to recharge it and turn it on still nothing happen but one day after charging it and press the power button then the laptop switched on but after thirty minutes turn of since then it won’t be on again, i need your help

    • Hi Shedrack,

There could be numerous problems making your laptop behave that way. Have you power adapter and your battery checked at a shop if you can,
as they usually do it for free. Either your laptop battery isn’t getting a full charge, or your adapter is not working to charge it up correctly.

There could be other possibilities but those sound most likely without knowing more info about your PC. Feel free to respond if you need more help!

Hi there i own an Acer Aspire 5560g my problem is one day last month i went to startup and it just didn’t i tried again several times and it booted and ran perfectly the for a few days after it booted fine and last week failing to boot again i spend about 15-20 mins just trying boot and it usually does but not today i have tried discharging any static from other guides but never left it for 20 mins or unplugged power supply am trying that now, i cannot remember when but since the boot problem i cannot put the laptop to sleep for more than say 5 mins, i had a bsod 3 times each time SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEPTION and it mentioned something about not receiving info from a clock (sorry for being vague) any idea what the problem may be? Other sites said possible psu or motherboard but i have only had it almost a year. Grateful of any help Ruben

    • Hi Ruben,

Since you mentioned a clock, chances are your CMOS battery could be very low. CMOS batteries hold the ROM’s info, thus allowing your computer to bootup and “remember” it’s settings, which include the time and date. If you can open up your laptop by removing several screws, you could replace/check the battery yourself.

You could also take it to a tech or a shop and have them replace the battery for you. That’s if a battery is your problem.

Start there and then post back if you need more help!

aspire one series, working great last night but can’t even power on now.when switch with the adaptor in,light comes for 5 secs and go.have try your help but it cant, battery is when charged, help me out.

    • Hi Sarfo,

Have you tried removing your battery and then plugging your adapter into the computer…then powering it on?
If that doesn’t help, make sure your battery is fully charged; it could be going bad. Take it to a shop or Best Buy near
you if you can, and have them test out your battery and your adapter to make sure both work.

That could be causing your problem. If not, you have some kind of hardware problem that will need repair. Good luck!

  159. Sarah R. says:

This was something I hadn’t known could work. Thanks! I’ll have to keep it in mind for future computers Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked for me THIS time. When I try to turn my acer on I either get a black screen (though it sounds like the computer is working), or I make it past the acer start up screen and end on a black screen with a white “-” in the top left corner. Any ideas? Oh! And I also can’t hold the power button to turn it off. I need to actually take the charger and batter out.

    • Hi Sarah,

Thanks for commenting! There could be several issues causing your problem, but I will name the most likely things you can check:

1.) Problem with Windows. To verify this, press F8 many, many times after starting your PC. Are you taken to the “Safe Mode..” menu after
doing that? Or are you still getting the blank screen and cursor? If so, move on to #2…

2.) Beep codes. Do you hear any beeping at all when you get the screen? If Windows isn’t loading at all, chances are it could be corrupt or
something could be wrong with your hard drive. Can you go into your “BIOS Setup Menu” and check to see if your hard drive is being detected?
IF not, that could be the problem. You can refer to your user manual or the Internet for info on checking that.

3.) Hardware problem. If your drives are being detected, but you still have the same issue, chances are you have to “Update your BIOS.” You can
refer to Acer’s website on how to do this. Their Support/Downloads section usually has info to assist you.

Last but not least, if none of that helps, you could have hardware damage, such as the motherboard. But troubleshoot these tips first and let us
know if you need further assistance! πŸ™‚

Hello. i have an acer aspire 4745g.

After using my laptop when i tried to turn it on again i experience only a single flash on its power led it turns out that maybe it is due to my low battery

when i tried plugging the chord the battery led light turn on and seems it is charging first it is colored orange about an hour or more it turns green so basically it is fully charge i think but when i turn it on it just flash 1 time but when i tried removing the battery and use just the power chord i didnt detect any current no led lights and it wont turn on

since i live in a town with no luck for some skilled tech support here. i need to travel by a boat or a plane or a ten hours bus travel in order to meet some skilled tech support.

i already tried above solution but no luck btw thanks for that info!
    my question were.
is it a motherboard problem? or just the outlet were i insert my power chord? or the powerchord itself?

    • Hi Ed,

Thanks for commenting. First thought is that your power cord isn’t supplying enough power to the battery/computer.

That’s why it’s not fully charging, and why it won’t work when the battery is detached from the laptop.

Another possibility, is your battery is needed in order for your computer to power up with the power cord attached. Have you ever tried to use your computer without the battery before, and did it work? If not, that could be the problem also.

If you can, swap your adapter with a known-to-work-100% power adapter. Attach it to your PC, with the battery plugged in. Allow it to charge for a couple of hours and try again. If it still doesn’t fix the problem, remove the battery and see if it powers up without the battery.

If it doesn’t, you may have a problem with your motherboard, which could include the DC power jack itself. A faulty connection from the DC power jack to the motherboard can result in a loss of power getting to the battery and the computer.

Try the adapter swap and post back for more help. πŸ™‚

  162. Peter says:

I’ve got a startup issue with my Aspire 5551, the fan starts but then nothing else happen. It remains black and unfriendly. I’ve tried the trick in the first post twice with different resting time, once for 20 minutes and once with about an hour. I’ll try it once more shortly, leaving it be over the night.
I get no beeping sound what so ever, just the fan reving up and then settling a “normal” pace. The battery-lamp is shining as is the lamp indicating that I’m hooked up to the grid but I never get any light on the harddrive-lamp.
This happend earlier today but at that time, I simply unplugged the battery and let it rest for 15 minutes and it started with no problem. No such luck this time.
Is it the harddrive which is making this a sad moment or is there hope for this laptop?

    • Peter says:

I got it running, it took another two attempts though, and what might’ve done the trick was to discharge the battery before fully recharging it. (I simply hooked up the cooling pad and let it die.)

    • Hi Peter,

It’s difficult to tell exactly what’s causing your problem, but it could be the hard drive. Usually when the hard drive
is on it’s way out, you will notice the black screen and cursor, and Windows failing to load. You’ll also notice issues
in Windows such as blue screens, programs not operating properly, files missing and/or not saving properly, I/O error messages and more.

Get into Windows if you can, and go to Computer/My Computer.
      Right-click it and choose Properties.

      Next, choose the Tools tab.
Click Check Now under Error Checking.

Allow it to test your drive for errors.

      Did it find any?
